The 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion (9GCHP) will be co-organized by WHO and the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) of the People's Republic of China. The conference will provide an unprecedented opportunity to reassert the significance of health promotion in improving health and health equity at the historical moment of 30 years anniversary of Ottawa Charter, and the first year of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will direct and guide Member States on the practical application of evidence-based health promotion concepts, approaches and mechanisms for achieving SDGs.

▪To make explicit and optimize the role/achievement of health promotion in improving health and health equity
▪To provide guidance to countries on the practical application of health promotion to achieving the SDGs
▪To galvanize political commitment to health for all through achieving the SDGs
▪To mobilize people, governments and civil society to address social determinants of health in order to achieve the SDGs
▪To exchange national experiences in improving health literacy, intensifying action across sectors and social mobilization, and creating healthy cities, communities and human settlements
There are four thematic areas, namely healthy cites and human settlement as key platforms, action across sectors and social mobilization as two key approaches, health literacy as the foundation blocks in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, there are mayors forum, poster presentations, lunch symposia and the China Day.
